It's tough being a small school in Rural Arizona even today. This domain was originally develped in 2003 in an effort to organize some of these schools and obtain more support and resources. It was in existance for about three years and then I would guess the founder and technical person moved on to other things. In researching the old site I also noticed newer government programs with elaborate titles that came online later. There are always lots of government programs and they attract people who stay as long as the grant funds last. The truely dedicated ones stay on of course.
I still remember how startled I was when I first met a teacher in Maxwell, NM (Pop. 200) who was a graduate of the Boston Latin School. I never did hear the story of how he ended up in New Mexico, but the west is full of stories like that.
In the early part of the 1900's many people from the east came to the southwest in hopes of a cure for their tuberculosis. Those who survived often stayed.
To give you an idea of what kind of schools these folks were dealing with I have set this page to pull up links to postcards and other old school items from Arizona that are currently on sale at Ebay.
